MARSHFIELD — The Prostate Cancer Support Group’s mission is to educate and support men who have been diagnosed and/or treated for prostate cancer. Current members are residents of Marshfield, Spencer, Riplinger, Stevens Point, Neillsville, and other surrounding areas.
The group meets monthly on the first Thursday of the month at the Marshfield Clinic Melvin Laird Building, Room 0050, from 5-7 p.m. There is also a companion group, which meets at the same time in the Weston Center Conference Room 1. The support groups and speaker are linked by computer conference.
Typically, the topics for discussion relate to benefits and the effects of prostate cancer treatment options. These topics include, but are not limited to, diet, exercise, health problems, etc.
In an effort to relate and appeal to more participants in the support group, there will be two future “Men Only” sessions, during which topics of a more personal nature will be discussed.
On Thursday, Jan.7, 2016, the speaker will be Dr. Matt Thomas, urologist at the Marshfield Clinic-Minocqua Center. The topics for this meeting will be an open discussion about issues relating to prostate cancer, sexual health, and urinary incontinence treatment options.
On Feb. 4, 2016, the second “Men’s Only” meeting will be held. The speaker will be Dr. Balaji Kalyanaraman, urologist at the Marshfield Clinic-Marshfield Center. The topics will be an continuation and expansion of those from the January meeting.
The Prostate Cancer Support Group invites and encourages any interested man to attend these meetings. No relevant subject is off-limits for discussion.
