MARSHFIELD — Ashley Kurszewski, Surgical Intensive Care Unit (SICU), is the latest registered nurse at Ministry Saint Joseph’s Hospital to receive the DAISY award.

The award is given monthly to nurses who consistently demonstrate excellence through their clinical expertise and extraordinary compassionate care. They are recognized as outstanding role models in the hospital’s nursing community.

Ashley graduated from Mid-State Technical College in May of 2011. She has worked at Ministry Saint Joseph’s Hospital for three years, first on Eight North for two years and was then transferred to SICU. The following is the story that was submitted by the significant other of a recent patient that Ashley cared for:

My significant other had a very serious and potentially horrific back injury. Ashley was so comforting and supportive to both me and (my significant other) that it eased both of our minds. She was so compassionate and understanding and even was able to make (my significant other) and I laugh at one point. Ashley has a true gift of healing on many levels and is an exceptionally gifted nurse. Thank you, Ashley.

Other nurses nominated this month were Nicole Weber, Post-Anesthesia Care Unit, and Cindy Austin, Seven North.
