Wood County announces participation in Naloxone Direct Program

WOOD COUNTY--Wood County Health Department is participating in the Naloxone Direct Program (previously known as the Narcan® Direct Program) through the Wisconsin Department of Health Services. This program supports the free distribution of nasal naloxone spray to community residents and partner agencies working with populations who are at risk of opioid overdose. Since 2019, the Wood County Health Department has distributed over 2,700 doses of 4 milligrams Narcan® nasal spray, trained 579 individuals in Overdose Prevention and Narcan® Administration. and partnered with over 30 local agencies to use and distribute Narcan®. Narcan nasal spray, along with medical treatment, can reverse the life altering effects of an opiod overdose. Narcan nasal spray can restore an individual’s breathing within 2-3 minutes, and in some cases even when breathing has stopped.
