MARSHFIELD — The 200 Block Community Plaza project is underway and set to break ground this year. While a majority of the funding has been raised, there is still some that remains. The fundraising campaign is now open to the public at a variety of levels so that more families, businesses, and individuals in the community can contribute.

The plaza has officially been named The Wenzel Family Plaza after the family committed a large donation.

“Our parents, Harry and Violet, and our brother, Russ, have been active in the Marshfield community all of their lives, and we are proud the Wenzel family’s latest contribution will be a family-focused gathering place in our hometown,” Judy and Nancy Wenzel said in a joint statement. “We hope the community square will be a catalyst for further development downtown. We also extend our thanks to the other individuals and businesses supporting this development and to the community leaders who are dedicated to making it a reality.”

Any contribution of $250 or more will be recognized in the plaza. Recognition can be for individuals, families, businesses, alumni groups, etc. Contributions may be made in memory or in honor of a loved one.

Groundbreaking will take place this spring or summer with programming starting in 2018. Those interested in contributing a donation to the project can do so directly at the Marshfield Area Community Foundation, or call Main Street Marshfield at 715-387-3299 to discuss further options.
