Marshfield men steal liquor, sandwiches

Police were alerted to two retail thefts that occurred at a store on the 2000 block of N. Central Ave. between July 6 and July 14. Video footage showed two Marshfield men concealing a bottle of Jim Beam liquor and two Italian sub sandwiches and then exiting the premises without paying for them.

Police made contact with both men, and they admitted to the thefts. Both were booked and then released for criminal theft due to past retail thefts. A request for charges will follow.

BB gun stolen from backpack

A Milladore man reported that a BB gun was stolen from his backpack while he was on the 100 block of W. Franklin St. on July 18. The man said he was informed by mutual friends that they saw a male individual take the item from the backpack and that this suspect still has it.

The Milladore man had no further information other than an alias of the suspect and a vague description of the BB gun. Local records did not show anyone matching the alias. The Milladore man said he would contact police again if he had any further identifying information.

Wallet stolen from unlocked vehicle on 13th Street

A Marshfield man reported that some time between 3 p.m. on July 19 and 7 a.m. on July 20 someone entered his unlocked vehicle, which was on the 500 block of W. 13th St., and removed his leather wallet. The wallet contained $5 in cash and the man’s debit card and driver’s license.

The man had contacted his bank to report that the debit card was stolen. Police conducted a neighborhood canvass, but it yielded no useful information.

Gas drive-off reported at Central Avenue station

The manager at a gas station on the 600 block of N. Central Ave. reported at 11:09 a.m. that someone pumped $38 worth of gas but left without paying for it. The driver was a white female that appeared to be in her late 30s with blond hair.

The vehicle driven had no license plates. There were no other unique identifying markings on the vehicle.

Police receive two reports of harassment

At 11:17 a.m. a 48-year-old Marshfield woman reported being harassed by a 60-year-old Marshfield woman because the 60-year-old thought the 48-year-old was hanging out with the 60-year-old’s boyfriend. The 48-year-old believed that the 60-year-old was driving by her house on different occasions for no legitimate purpose.

Police spoke with the 60-year-old, and she admitted to driving by the 48-year-old’s residence to check if her boyfriend was there. Police advised the 60-year-old to cease all contact with the 48-year-old and to stop driving by her residence.

A Marshfield woman came into the Marshfield Police Department to report harassing messages she had received between May 20 and July 20. She stated that a 28-year-old Marshfield man had been trying to contact her via phone and text messages to start a relationship.

When the woman denied the requests, the contact turned harassing in nature. She stated that the man had been attempting to degrade her reputation and would like the contact to stop.

Police contacted the man, informed him of the woman’s concerns, and told him to have no further contact with her.

Man makes threatening comments

At 6:38 p.m. a Marshfield woman reported receiving a threatening phone call from her 28-year-old ex-boyfriend and father of their three children. The man had called to voice his disapproval of behaviors the woman allegedly had been doing in the children’s presence as well as poor behavior by the children. During the conversation the man made comments that the woman felt were threatening.

Officer attempts to contact the man were unsuccessful, and a voicemail message was left. Follow-up will continue.

Marshfield woman targeted in telephone scam

At 9:36 p.m. police received a report that a Marshfield woman had been targeted in a telephone scam. A man contacted the woman and said she had won $3 million. The man requested the woman’s bank information and that a $300 check be sent to a third person. He said that someone would come to the woman’s residence to bring her the money.

At this time no monetary loss has occurred, and the person who reported the incident was unsure if the account numbers were given. She said she would contact the banks during business hours.

The telephone number the man called from belonged to an area of Jamaica.

Man taken into custody for DOC warrant

Police took a 50-year-old Marshfield man into custody on the 500 block of S. Cherry Ave. for a valid Department of Corrections warrant. He was booked at the Marshfield Police Department and then transported to Wood County Jail.

Thursday, July 21

Police investigate reported appliance theft

A Poway, California, business reported a possible theft of a dishwasher and stove from a residence on the 1300 block of E. 19th St. that occurred some time between Jan. 9 and July 21. Police attempted to contact the previous tenant, a Black River Falls woman, and left her a phone message. Investigation is ongoing.

Bank denies possible fraudulent money transfer

A bank associate contacted police in regards to an unusual money transfer that was requested by a customer on July 15. The associate believed the money transfer would make the customer a victim of fraud. After being informed of the possible fraudulent transaction, the customer still wanted to go through with the transfer.

The bank is refusing to transfer the money due to red flags that have come up and has told the customer she could return to the bank to close her account.

Wallet reported missing at Central Avenue store

A Stratford man stated that he believed he left his wallet and its contents at a store on the 1600 block of N. Central Ave. on July 19. The man had gone back to the store numerous times to see if anyone turned in the items, but no one had. The man wished to report the incident to police in the event that the items are returned.

Marshfield man arrested for physical abuse of a child

Police responded at 6:37 p.m. to a report that a juvenile was assaulted by a 21-year-old Marshfield man. The man was arrested, booked, and transported to Wood County Jail. A request for charges of physical abuse of a child will be forwarded to the Wood County district attorney.

Man taken into custody for warrant, battery

A Marshfield woman contacted dispatch at 11:25 p.m. to report being in an altercation with her 31-year-old fiance and father of her child. Upon investigation it was determined that the man had an active warrant to failure to pay a fine of $500.

Police contacted the man and took him into custody for the warrant. An additional charge of battery – domestic will be referred to the Wood County DA’s office. The 72-hour no-contact prohibition was enforced.

Friday, July 22

Firearms reported stolen

A Marshfield man reported that some time within the last month, someone took two handguns, a handgun case, and an assault rifle from his home without his permission. The man provided a list of suspects, and investigation will continue.

Flower pots reportedly stolen from gravesite

A Marshfield woman reported that flower pots near her parents’ gravestone on the 600 block of N. St Joseph Ave. were stolen some time between July 12 and July 15. The woman searched the area and spoke with cemetery personnel about the whereabouts of the flower pots but gained no further information. There are no suspects.

Vehicle’s rear window broken

A Marshfield woman reported that some time between 1:30 a.m. and 11:02 a.m. someone or something had smashed the rear window of her vehicle, which was parked in a driveway on the 600 block of N. Broadway Ave. An officer investigated but did not observe any objects nearby that would have been used to cause the damage.

Man cited for trespassing in child custody dispute

A Marshfield woman reported at 4:25 p.m. that a 25-year-old man was on her property attempting to pick up his son, which was against a court custody order. She also stated that the man was trespassing.

Upon further investigation, the man was found to be trespassing and was issued a citation. Officers told the man that police would not be able to assist him in retrieving his son without seeing the proper court documentation. The man said he would bring the proper paperwork that showed he was to have custody of his son.

Police also told the man not to return to the woman’s property unless escorted by an officer.

Saturday, July 23

Items stolen from unlocked vehicle on Sixth Street

A Marshfield man reported that some time between 2:30 p.m. on July 22 and 1:30 p.m. on July 23 someone entered his unlocked vehicle, which was parked in a driveway on the 1200 block of E. Sixth St., and took around $30 in change, a flashlight, and sunglasses. Other items of value were left in the vehicle.

A lighter was found in the vehicle that did not belong to the man. Police took it as evidence. There are no suspects at this time.

Police to investigate possible restraining order violation

At 12:23 a.m. a Marshfield woman reported that a 32-year-old Marshfield man, against whom she has a restraining order, called her twice while she was asleep. Further investigation is needed.

Potential child abuse under investigation

At 5:19 p.m. a Winona, Minnesota, woman reported that her 6-year-old son disclosed possible physical abuse from his father, a 39-year-old Marshfield man. The child was in his mother’s custody and reportedly had a bruise on his leg.

The woman was advised to contact the Winona Police Department to start an initial investigation. The following day it was learned that the woman did not contact the police department and that the child was turned over to his father. Follow-up will continue.

Man taken into custody following domestic abuse incident

Police responded at 11:14 p.m. to an open 911 call at a residence on the 2200 block of S. Maple Ave. Upon arrival police encountered an active physical domestic abuse incident.

A 46-year-old Marshfield man was taken into custody and later transported to Wood County Jail. A request for charges will be filed through the Wood County DA’s office.

Marshfield man violates probation restrictions

Police took a 38-year-old Marshfield man into custody per the request of Probation and Parole, who had placed a hold on him for violating his restrictions. The man was transported to the Marshfield Police Department, where he was processed, and then to the Wood County Sheriff’s Office jail.

Sunday, July 24

Two thefts reported

A Marshfield man reported that some time between 9 p.m. on June 24 and 8 a.m. on June 25 someone entered an unlocked service door to his garage on the 100 block of N. Hinman Ave. and took a bicycle. He did not have any suspects.

The man looked through impounded bicycles but did not find his bicycle. He was told to contact police again if he finds the bicycle.

A Marshfield woman reported that some time between 11 p.m. on July 22 and 4:30 a.m. on July 23 someone entered two vehicles that were on the 800 block of S. Hemlock St. and took a GPS unit out of each of them. Two additional vehicles at the residence were gone through, but nothing was removed from them.

The woman did not have any suspects.

Man flees from police, later taken into custody

Police responded at 9:05 a.m. to a report of a disturbance between a man and a woman on the 1000 block of W. Kalsched St. The man fled upon seeing officers arrive, and a foot pursuit ensued. He was taken into custody during a search of the area a short time later.

In searching the vehicle, police located THC, methamphetamine, and drug paraphernalia. The man also had a valid Department of Corrections warrant.

Marshfield man arrested for warrant, drug paraphernalia, bail jumping

Police took a 36-year-old Marshfield man into custody at his residence on the 400 block of S. Cherry Ave. for a warrant at 2:41 p.m. Police located a metal pipe with burnt residue, which field tested positive for THC.

The man, who was out on bond for another case, was transported to the Marshfield Police Department, booked, and then taken to Wood County Jail. Charges were requested through the Wood County DA’s office.

Monday, July 25

GPS unit, bicycle reported stolen in separate incidents

A Marshfield man came into the Marshfield Police Department to report that on July 14 a bicycle was taken from his residence on the 300 block of N. Central Ave. Police will contact the owner if the bicycle is turned in or located.

A Marshfield man reported that some time between 10 p.m. on July 22 and 6 a.m. on July 23 someone entered his unlocked vehicle, which was on the 1200 block of Washington Court, and removed $2 in quarters and a GPS unit without permission. The man said other items of value were not taken, including the power cord and mount.

Police take down vulgar sign

While on patrol at 1:33 a.m., police observed that letters on a store’s sign on the 100 block of S. Peach Ave. had been rearranged to form vulgar phrases. Police took down the letters and placed them and an officer’s business card with a note explaining why they were removed at the doorstep of the store.

Unresponsive man medically cleared, taken into custody

Police responded at 6:15 p.m. to a report of an unresponsive but breathing 35-year-old Stratford man on the 500 block of E. Ives St. An ambulance arrived on the scene, and EMS began to treat the man.

A consent search was conducted on the vehicle and those involved in the incident. Multiple items were found that may contain evidence of illegal activity. The items were taken and secured at the Marshfield Police Department. Charges will be forthcoming if the items return a positive test for illegal substances.

The man was transported to St. Joseph’s Hospital, where he was medically cleared, and then was booked at the Marshfield Police Department. He was released pending results from the crime lab.

Tuesday, July 26

Vehicle with stolen license plate involved in gas drive-off

A Milwaukee man reported a theft of a license plate that he believed occurred in Marshfield some time between June 27 and July 5. Upon investigation it was discovered that the theft occurred in Rothschild.

The license plate has been entered as stolen through the Wisconsin Department of Transportation. Reports will be forwarded to the Rothschild Police Department to assist with their investigation.

A vehicle using the stolen license plate was involved in a gas drive-off in Marshfield. The theft of $16.48 worth of gasoline occurred at a station on the 100 block of N. Central Ave. some time between 11:40 p.m. on July 5 and 12:01 p.m. on July 6. Attempts to identify the suspect are ongoing.

Upham Street ATM damaged

Police received a report that an ATM on the 200 block of E. Upham St. had been damaged some time between 5 p.m. on July 25 and 9 a.m. on July 26. An officer observed that the ATM’s touch screen had been struck by an unknown object and had cracked.

A manager will review security footage to determine if a suspect can be identified and contact police at a later time. Investigation will continue.

Vehicles entered, store burglarized

A Marshfield woman reported that some time between 8 p.m. on July 25 and 8:34 a.m. on July 26 someone entered her unlocked vehicle while it was parked on the 1600 block of S. Cedar Ave. and took a checkbook from an inactive bank account. The bank was notified of the incident.

The woman noted that a piece of paper with her business’ name and address had been pulled out of the glove box. She later reported that her business had been burglarized, which is under investigation. A safe and $4,400 was missing from the business when she opened for the day at 8:58 a.m.

The woman also stated that someone entered her unlocked garage and went through her husband’s vehicle, but nothing was taken. The garage door was left partway open during the night.

Man arrested for OWI, heroin possession

A 21-year-old Marshfield man was involved in a nonreportable crash on the 400 block of N. Central Ave. at 2:44 p.m. He was subsequently arrested for operating while under the influence, second offense, and possession of heroin with intent to deliver. Later he was transported to the Wood County Sheriff’s Office jail. Charges will be sent to the DA’s office.

Marshfield police assisted Marathon County Sheriff’s Office

At 11:05 p.m. a lieutenant with the Marathon County Sheriff’s Office requested Marshfield police assistance in taking a 29-year-old man into custody on a probation warrant and for questioning in an investigation regarding a Marathon County incident. Police made contact with the man, took him into custody, and turned him over to the Marathon County Sheriff’s Office without incident.
