Tuesday, April 21

Man’s money stolen

Police responded at 8:18 a.m. to a report of theft. A 33-year-old Marshfield man stated he had friends over at his house on the 300 block of W. Third St., and at one point his wallet went missing.

He gave one of his female friends a ride home, and as she was getting dropped off, some money fell on the ground. The man retrieved the money, about $80, but $1,000 was still missing. The man later found his wallet on his bathroom floor, where he knew he did not put it.

The suspect’s name was given. Investigation will continue.

Thursday, April 23

Marshfield man arrested on DOC warrant

Police arrested a 20-year-old Marshfield man on the 700 block of N. Weber Ave. on a valid Department of Corrections warrant. The man was transported to the Marshfield Police Department, where he was live scanned. He was later transported to Wood County Jail.

Friday, April 24

Windshield wiper broken

A 58-year-old Marshfield woman reported that between 1:58 and 2:10 a.m. on April 19 she observed a young, blond woman grab her passenger-side windshield wiper and push it up along the windshield, stripping or breaking the wiper motor gears.

The 58-year-old stated she was having problems with tenants in the apartment below hers on the 1500 block of S. Locust Ave. She did not believe the blond woman lived in the building, but she frequents the apartment below hers.

The 58-year-old had waited to call the police until she had spoken to her landlord. At the time of her call at 11:49 a.m., she believed the blond woman was in the apartment below hers. When police arrived the 58-year-old showed an officer the broken windshield wiper.

Police attempted contact at the apartment, but there was no answer. People could be heard inside the apartment, but none came to the door.

The 58-year-old did not know the names of the blond woman or anyone who lived in the apartment. Police received the name on the apartment’s mailbox. Investigation will continue.

Park’s wooden shelf damaged

Police responded at 12:26 p.m. to a report of criminal damage to property. A wooden shelf at a park on the 2000 block of S. Peach Ave. was damaged.

The woman who reported finding the damaged shelf did not have any leads as to who was involved but wanted to report the incident because of past similar damage to property. The shelf would cost approximately $100 to replace. Investigation will continue.

Saturday, April 25

Marshfield police assist Portage County sheriffs

At 3:13 a.m. the Portage County Sheriff’s Department requested Marshfield Police Department assistance in obtaining a blood draw for a 44-year-old Stevens Point woman who was involved in a traffic accident and was at Ministry Saint Joseph’s Hospital.

The Informing the Accused was read verbatim, to which the woman stated yes to an evidentiary chemical test of her blood. The blood draw was conducted and later mailed to the state crime lab for analysis.

Woman’s grill and fire pit stolen

A 39-year-old Marshfield woman reported that some time between 9 p.m. on April 24 and 7 a.m. on April 25 her gas grill and steel fire pit were stolen on the 2200 block of S. Maple Ave. The woman stated she had other items left out for disposal, but the stolen items were away from the items to be discarded. There were no further leads regarding the theft.

Tax-related identity theft No. 1

At 11:34 a.m. a 60-year-old Marshfield man reported that while attempting to file his and his wife’s taxes he discovered that someone had filed their taxes without their knowledge or consent.

IRS forms were given to the couple to be filled out, and they were instructed to return the forms to the police department to be mailed by law enforcement for investigative purposes. Police also gave the couple a phone number to contact the Wisconsin Department of Revenue. Investigation will continue.

Marshfield woman reports missing purse

An 83-year-old Marshfield woman reported that she believed she left her purse in the lobby of her building on the 600 block of S. Cedar Ave. prior to running errands between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. When the woman returned, the purse was gone.

The woman contacted the building’s caretaker, and the caretaker would inform the woman if the purse was returned. The caretaker also made an announcement to the building in reference to the lost purse.

The woman stated she would contact the police again if the purse was found. No further action was taken.

Fight on Cedar Avenue

Police responded at 2:07 p.m. to a report of a fight on the 900 block of N. Cedar Ave. By the time police arrived, the fight had ended and only one of the suspects could be located, an 18-year-old Augusta man. He claimed another man hit him in the chest and head with a closed fist, pushed him to the ground, and grabbed him around the neck but did not cut off his ability to breathe.

The 18-year-old had no visible signs of injury, did not want medical attention, and did not want to pursue charges. He provided a possible name of the other man involved, but officers were unable to locate the man in the area or in local or state records.

Because the 18-year-old was on probation, officers forwarded probation and parole a copy of the police report.

Tax-related identity theft No. 2

At 2:45 p.m. a 63-year-old Marshfield man reported an unknown person filed a tax return in his name. When the man submitted his taxes online, he was notified by the IRS that there was already a record of him filing.

The man completed the proper forms, one of which was sent to the IRS identity theft coordinator. The report was forwarded to the detective bureau for further investigation.

Sunday, April 26

Gas siphoned from vehicle on St Joseph Avenue

A 21-year-old Hartford woman reported that while her car was parked on the 500 block of N. St Joseph Ave., someone had siphoned out almost all of her gas from her car. The woman had filled the car up with gas before parking it for the night at 6 p.m. on April 25, and when she got in her car at 6 a.m. on April 26, she noticed the fuel gauge was below “E.”

Police requested video surveillance of the area where the vehicle was parked. The investigation will continue.

Port Edwards woman leaves Marshfield woman obscene phone messages

At 10:09 a.m. a 40-year-old Marshfield woman reported that she had received numerous obscene text and voice messages on her phone from her former roommate, a 27-year-old Port Edwards woman. In the messages the 27-year-old accused the 40-year-old of not paying all rent money due while they lived together. The 40-year-old was informed that the rent issue was a civil matter, but an officer would attempt to contact the 27-year-old to stop the telephone abuse.

Police called the number the messages came from and spoke to a woman, but she denied knowing anything about the harassing messages or the parties involved. Police told the woman that if messages continued from the phone number, citations would be issued for verbal abuse. The 40-year-old was informed to contact police if further messages continue.

Police assist in death investigation

A 60-year-old Rudolph woman contacted Wood County Dispatch 911 at 12:10 p.m. in reference to a 60-year-old Marshfield man who was not breathing on N. Sawyer Drive. Upon gathering the necessary information, Marshfield ambulance and officers were dispatched to the scene, and the Wood County Coroner’s office was paged out to the scene for the death investigation. The death appeared to be from natural causes.

The deceased was transported to Hansen Funeral home. The family was contacted and briefed.

20-year-old arrested following traffic stop

Police arrested a 20-year-old Marshfield man for Carrying a Concealed Weapon and Obstructing an Officer during a traffic stop at 4:43 p.m. near the intersection of West Upham Street and Sawyer Drive. The man was placed into handcuffs, which were properly adjusted and safety locked; searched incident to arrest; and transported to the Marshfield Police Department for booking.

The man was released after booking without incident and was issued a citation for Unreasonable and Imprudent Speed and several written warnings. A request for charges is being requested through the Wood County district attorney’s office.

Man takes ex-girlfriend’s stereo equipment

A 28-year-old Marshfield woman reported that when her ex-boyfriend, with whom she lived between January and March of 2015, moved out, he took some of her stereo equipment without her permission. The woman had asked the man via Facebook to give the equipment back to her, but the items had not yet been returned.

The woman did not have the man’s current address or phone number. Police attempted to contact the man, but his listed number was no longer current. Follow-up will continue.

Monday, April 27

Marshfield man arrested for two Clark County warrants

Police arrested an 18-year-old Marshfield man on the 1000 block of E. 29th St. on two valid Clark County warrants. The man was taken to the Marshfield Police Department, where he was booked, and later turned over to Clark County law enforcement after he was unable to post the required $250.50 bond.

Tuesday, April 28

Bicycle stolen on Maple Avenue

At 6:51 p.m. a 31-year-old Marshfield woman reported her daughter’s bicycle had been stolen from the 2200 block of S. Maple Ave. some time between 9 p.m. on April 25 and 9 a.m. on April 26. The woman had asked neighbors about the bicycle, but no one had seen or heard anything. There are no suspects at this time.

Man taken into custody for OWI

Officers took a 26-year-old Marshfield man into custody on the 2000 block of N. Central Ave. for Operating While under the Influence, second offense. The man refused a blood draw and was taken to the Marshfield Police Department, where booking procedures were completed and a search warrant was applied for and granted. The blood draw was conducted at Ministry Saint Joseph’s Hospital, and the man was then released to a responsible party.
