Drunken man arrested while trying to enter wrong house

Police responded at 8:39 p.m. to a report that an intoxicated man was trying to gain entry into a residence on the 400 block of W. Blodgett St. Officers arrived and found a 34-year-old Marshfield man on the front step. He was extremely intoxicated and had a cut on his head, which he attributed to a fall. The man believed he was at his own residence, but he was not.

Officers knew the man and knew that he was on probation. The man was taken into custody on a Department of Corrections hold. Police took him to Saint Joseph’s Hospital to be treated and medically cleared and then transported him to Wood County Jail.

Man taken into custody on Jefferson County warrant

Police took a 38-year-old Marshfield man into custody on the 2200 block of S. Maple Ave. on a Jefferson County warrant. Officers transported the man to the Marshfield Police Department, where booking procedures were completed. The man posted bond and was released.

Friday, Feb. 20

Marshfield woman arrested for disorderly conduct

Officers were dispatched to the 1400 block of E. Depot St. at 8:02 p.m. to investigate a disturbance. Dispatch received a 911 call where the person called and then hung up the phone. During the investigation, police determined that a 24-year-old Marshfield woman called 911 because she wanted attention.

The woman was arrested for disorderly conduct. She was then transported to Wood County Jail after not passing bond screening criteria. The Marshfield booking procedures were not completed due to her continued disorderly and passive resistive behavior. A request for charges will be sent to the Wood County District Attorney’s office.

Saturday, Feb. 21

Police take man into custody on Clark County warrant

An officer conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle near the intersection of Western Street and Broadway Avenue. During the stop, the male driver was taken into custody on a valid Clark County warrant. The man was transported to a gas station to pick up a money order and then to the Marshfield Police Department for booking procedures. The man was released after posting bond.

Edgar man posts bond following involvement in brawl

While on patrol, officers witnessed a brawl taking place in the lane of traffic on the 400 block of S. Central Ave. When police attempted to make contact, two individuals ran westbound from the area. Police located one of the individuals, a 27-year-old Edgar man, who had a valid Marshfield Police Department warrant with a bond of $410. The bond was posted, and the man was released.

No other suspects from the brawl were identified.

Man arrested for driving without a license

Police arrested a man near the intersection of Central Avenue and Kalsched Street for Operating without a Valid Driver’s License, second offense. He was brought to the Marshfield Police Department, booked, and then released.

Sunday, Feb. 22

Guitar stolen on Chestnut Avenue

A 26-year-old La Crosse man reported that his guitar and its strap and case were stolen between 8:30 and 9 p.m. on Feb. 21. The items were in a storage room where other bands’ equipment was stored on the 200 block of S. Chestnut Ave.

The man had posted on social media, asking if any bands had taken the items by accident, but he had not received any positive responses. There are no suspects.

Arpin man arrested for OWL, concealed weapon

Police arrested a 27-year-old Arpin man near the intersection of Hume Avenue and Emerald Street at 12:36 p.m. for Operating Without License (OWL), second offense within three years. During a search of his person incident to arrest, a concealed weapon was located in his pocket.

Officers brought him to the Marshfield Police Department, where he was booked, and then transported him to the Wood County Sheriff’s Office jail on a probation hold.

A request for charges will be sent to the district attorney’s office for carrying a concealed weapon. The man was issued a citation for OWL, second offense.

Citations issued to perpetrators of Jan. 1 theft

Police issued citations for Retail Theft to two Marshfield men, a 35-year-old and a 48-year-old, that had stolen $237.18 worth of laundry detergent and dog food from a store on the 2000 block of N. Central Ave. on Jan. 1.

The men placed the items in a shopping cart, passed the last point of sale without paying for the items, and placed the items in the bed of a pickup truck. The 35-year-old drove the truck to a gas station on the 2000 block of N. Central Ave., walked inside, and used the telephone. The 48-year-old re-entered the store.

Police identified the vehicle and the men with surveillance footage from the gas station and the store. The men admitted they were guilty of theft.

Police cite five individuals for OWI over the weekend

At 2:29 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 21, an officer on routine patrol observed a vehicle circle the block near Fourth Street and Chestnut Avenue four times at a slow rate of speed. The officer then followed the vehicle on Central Avenue for 10 blocks, and the vehicle drifted in and out of its lane and even crossed the center line. At the intersection of Central and 14th, the vehicle came to a complete stop at a green light for several seconds.

The officer initiated a traffic stop; made contact with the driver, a 55-year-old Marshfield woman; and identified her by her Wisconsin driver’s license.

The officer smelled the odor of intoxicants coming from her person. She had bloodshot and glossy eyes and admitted to drinking.

The woman performed standardized field sobriety tests (SFST) and registered a reading of 0.174 on a preliminary breath test (PBT). The woman was arrested and cited for Operating While under the Influence (OWI).

At 4:06 a.m. a vehicle traveling southbound on Chestnut Avenue near Arnold Street drifted near the curb and snow bank before stopping at the traffic signal at Veterans Parkway. The vehicle made a right turn on red against the posted sign that indicated no turn on red.

Police conducted a traffic stop and identified the driver, a 23-year-old Spencer man, who appeared intoxicated, by his Wisconsin driver’s license. The man performed SFST poorly and registered a reading of 0.12 with a PBT.

The man was arrested for OWI and was released to a sober adult after submitting to a legal blood draw.

On Sunday, Feb. 22, police received a complaint that a 21-year-old Marshfield woman was intoxicated and driving to Marshfield from the Edgar area. Police conducted a traffic stop on her vehicle at 12:04 a.m. on the 1600 block of N. Central Ave. Police made contact with the 21-year-old and identified her by her Wisconsin driver’s license and by knowing her from a previous contact.

The 21-year-old appeared impaired. She performed SFST poorly and registered a 0.249 PBT reading. There were two open cans of beer in her vehicle, and she consented to a legal blood draw.

The 21-year-old was taken into custody for OWI, first offense. She had one other citation for OWI pending. The woman was cited for OWI and open intoxicants and then released to a responsible adult.

At 1:49 a.m. an officer on routine patrol observed a vehicle near the intersection of Arnold Street and Peach Avenue traveling with an expired registration sticker on its rear license plate. The officer initiated a traffic stop and made contact with the driver, a 29-year-old Marshfield man, who identified himself with a Wisconsin driver’s license.

The 29-year-old had a strong smell of intoxicants coming from his person, glossy and bloodshot eyes, and slurred speech. He performed SFST and registered a reading of 0.13 on a PBT.

The officer arrested and cited the 29-year-old for OWI.

At 3:05 a.m. police initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle driving in the wrong lane of traffic on the 100 block of W. Fourth St. A 27-year-old Granton man was driving and upon contact appeared heavily intoxicated. The 27-year-old said he had been drinking and performed SFST poorly.

The 27-year-old resisted arrest by pulling his arms, twisting his body, and refusing to bring his hands behind his back. An electronic control device was deployed to gain control, and the 27-year-old was directed to the ground, where he was secured in handcuffs. He refused a legal blood draw.

Police cited the 27-year-old for OWI and transported him to Wood County Sheriff’s Office jail on a probation hold. Charges were requested through the Wood County District Attorney’s office for Resisting an Officer.

Monday, Feb. 23

Marshfield man reports nuisance telephone calls

An 18-year-old Marshfield man reported he had received eight phone calls from a restricted number between 7:48 and 9:25 a.m. The man believed the calls were coming from an Iowa man regarding the Iowa man’s on again, off again girlfriend, with whom the Marshfield man has been speaking.

A month ago the Marshfield man received a call from the Iowa man where the Iowa man threatened him. The Marshfield man provided the Iowa man’s name but knew no other information.

Police suggested to the Marshfield man that he should contact his phone company to see if they could block the calls or that perhaps he could change his phone number.

Man arrested, transferred to Marathon County Sheriff’s Department

Police took a 36-year-old Stratford man into custody for a probation hold at 1:57 p.m. Arrangements had been made with the Marathon County Sheriff’s Department for a line transfer. Marshfield police transported the man halfway towards Marathon County Jail, transferring him to Marathon County deputies at the Marathon County Highway shop on Highway 97.

Hit-and-run reported on Maple Avenue

A 39-year-old Marshfield man reported his pickup truck had been struck by another vehicle and had its left rear fender damaged between 8 a.m. and 4:58 p.m. while it was unattended and legally parked on the 700 block of N. Maple Ave.

Police took photographs and conducted a neighborhood canvas. There are no suspects at this time.

Police arrest man for false imprisonment, domestic abuse

Police responded at 8:14 p.m. to a report of false imprisonment and domestic abuse on the 400 block of W. Cleveland St. A 34-year-old Marshfield woman was being held against her will in a bedroom at her residence by her 27-year-old boyfriend, and the two were arguing. The man had made statements about gun violence.

Officers arrived and detained the man. After interviewing all parties involved, the man was arrested and transported to Wood County Jail. The woman chose to enforce a 72-hour no contact prohibition. Charges are being requested through the Wood County District Attorney’s office.

Man arrested for violating probation

Police arrested a 28-year-old Marshfield man for a probation violation on the 200 block of S. Palmetto Ave. The man was brought to the Marshfield Police Department, where he was booked. Per Wood County Jail’s request, the man was medically cleared due to a high level of intoxication before he was transported to Wood County Jail.
