Top-ranked Stevens Point cruises past Marshfield boys basketball

MARSHFIELD — The No. 1-ranked Stevens Point boys basketball team overwhelmed Marshfield early, jumping out to a 24-6 lead after one quarter, and cruised to a 69-29 victory on Friday night at The Boson Company Fieldhouse at Marshfield High School.

The game was the Wisconsin Valley Conference season opener for both teams.

Stevens Point, ranked No. 1 in this week’s Wisconsin Basketball Coaches Association Division 1 state poll, improves to 4-0 overall. Marshfield is now 2-4.

The Panthers increased their lead to 44-12 by halftime and led 61-21 after three quarters.

Sam Hauser had 19 points, Trevor Anderson added 15, and Joey Hauser chipped in 14 for Stevens Point.

Eight different Marshfield players scored, led by Will Spindler’s six points.

Marshfield plays at Mosinee in a nonconference game on Saturday. The game will start at 2:30 p.m. and will be broadcast on WDLB-AM 1450 and wdlbwosq.com.
