MARSHFIELD—The Coven, a shared workspace and community gathering area, celebrated their grand opening on Nov. 13 located at 211 S Central Ave. The Coven offers something for everyone from conference rooms for book clubs or church groups, desks for those looking for workspace, and local establishments like Uptown Coffee and Main Street Marshfield calling The Coven their new home. Alex West Steinman, co-founder and CEO of The Coven, is proud to add Marshfield to their growing list of nearly seven exisitng locations. With locations in St. Paul, two locations in Minneapolis, Eau Claire, St. Louis Park in Minnesota, Marshfield, and one upcoming location to be located in Minnesota.
The Coven first began in Minneapolis in 2018, with Alex’s work to bring The Coven to life stretching back to 2017. When imagining The Coven in its’ infancy, West Steinman imagined, “A space where everyone is welcome and all lived experiences are honored. Everyone is welcome, and we try to embody this in everything we do from the deisgn and layout to the community building.” In six locations and six years, West Steinman has accomplished just that. The Coven exists for budding entrepuners who may not be able to afford a larger workspace, remote workers looking to get out of the house, community members looking to catch up over coffee, those looking for an event space to celebrate, and companies or groups looking to hold meetings in private conference rooms; there is a place and purpose for everyone at The Coven. To reflect its’ flexibility and variety of those invited to create and work in the space, a variety of membership options are available based on an individual’s needs.
Local owner, Marsha Bushman, is eager to bring the community together under one roof at The Coven’s new Marshfield location. Bushman, a Marshfield native herself, is rooted in the community and understands not only what it needs, but what can move Marshfield forward for the future. Bushman attended the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point for her undergraduate degree and continued on to earn her master’s at Lakeland University. After working in the health care space for nearly 25 years, Bushman is taking her skills of caring for others from the health field to community and local businesses with The Coven.
On The Coven’s importance to Marshfield and the community, Bushman said, “It ties all the economic engines together in one place.” The Coven isn’t just welcoming to those from all walks of life and experiences, but Bushman says it is abundant with resources. While community members can create and work together, they also can learn and grow with hours of videos available to members that educate on multiple aspects of business, working, and more. Bushman said, “This is an amazing place to come work, create, and grow for any and everyone, but it’s more than just a place you can come sit. People can come learn and grow with the resources we have available.”
The Coven is still new to Marshfield, but with its’ abundance of opportunities, resources, and comfortable work-spaces, it promises to become a community staple that is here to stay.
