Stoney River Memory Care officially opens its doors

MARSHFIELD – Stoney River Memory Care opened Tuesday with a ribbon cutting ceremony at its main entrance on Saint Joseph’s Avenue in Marshfield. The facility will serve residents with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia, and it will be separate from Stoney River’s other local assisted living facility.

The new facility’s built-in features will allow the environment itself to participate in the care of each resident. Some of the features include a courtyard garden, an indoor walking path, recollection rooms, a specially designed dining room, a resident kitchen, built-in showers, and safety features. The courtyard garden will offer the residents a chance to safely explore the outdoors and enjoy the sunshine.

Terry Howard, CEO of Stoney River, and his wife Carol have traveled the United States looking for the best practices and amenities in memory care centers. They spoke with owners of top-notch facilities around the country and compiled the best ideas for designing Stoney River Memory Care.

“For people with memory loss, they need a special environment,” Howard said. “Memory loss is something that’s headed our way as a state.”

Stoney River Administrator Tiffany Hainz described a sense of family over her three years with the company.

“Each and every one of us, whether its staff, residents, are equally a unique family, and that’s what I truly love about Stoney River,” Hainz said.
