Parents’ names: Charles & May Hannasch

Siblings: Maverick, Anchaleeya, Isabella, Paxton and Serenity Hannasch

Position or events: 4x800m relay and 300 meter hurdles

Career highlight:

The definitive highlight of my career was the 2024 WIAA D3 Rosholt Sectional. It was only my second time ever competing in the 4x800m relay, yet I managed to clock a 2:09 split. Standing on that podium with my teammates, knowing we were on our way to State, was a surreal and incredibly proud moment for all of us.

At what age did you start playing your main sport?

My career in track and field began when I was 13 years old.

Who introduced you to the sport?

Honestly, no one talked me into it. Back in 7th grade, I just heard they were signing kids up for track and decided to go for it.

Has this always been your favorite sport?

Beyond the competition, track is my favorite because of the bond I've shared with teammates who have come and gone throughout my high school years.

How has balancing academics and athletics been different for you from your freshman year to your senior year?

Balancing academics and athletics has gone quite smooth for me throughout high school, and I’ve never had any real trouble managing both responsibilities. Even during the hectic pace of my junior year, I was able to maintain that steady balance without any real issues.

What is your favorite part about this sport?

I love the pacing of track meets because it allows for a sense of community; chatting with teammates and competitors before a race adds a lightheartedness that balances out the intensity of the competition.

What about it has caused you to stick with it for this long?

I suppose it was the community. Whether I was running or chatting with other teams, everyone was always very friendly and always open to conversation. Also, having my friends to cheer me on at every meet was definitely something to look forward to.

What would you say is your biggest asset on the field/track?

My biggest asset on the track is my mental composure and easy going nature that I use to relate to my teammates and encourage them when they need it most.

What has been your most memorable experience in high school sports so far?

My most memorable experience was the day of our 4x800m relay at the 2024 State championship in La Crosse. Walking out onto the track with a crowd full of people cheering was intimidating, but it also motivated me and my teammates to bring forth our best.

How does it feel as a senior, to look back throughout high school and see your growth (as a person and athlete)?

As a freshman, high school starts as your entire world. The games, the social events are all so new and exciting. Looking back as a senior, I realize how much my focus has shifted. Rather than obsessing over my own accomplishments, I try to use that energy to support my teammates and others around me.

Any memorable coaches or teammates you’d like to give a shout out to?

I would like to thank Coach Burt for nominating me for this award and giving me the opportunity to grow as a person. I would also like to thank my girlfriend Jade, for always finding the time to come to my meetings and support me.

Any hobbies outside of sports?

Photography, hiking and spending time with friends.

Favorite song?

“Father and Son” by Cat Stevens.

Future plans?

Pursue child psychology at UW-Stout.
