SPENCER – For the fourth-straight season, the Spencer volleyball team lost a Cloverbelt Conference crossover match in five games, this time to Stanley-Boyd in the first-place matchup 3-2 on Thursday at Spencer High School.

Stanley-Boyd won 25-19, 10-25, 25-22, 23-25, 16-14, to send Spencer to just its third loss of the season (33-3).

Macie Weber had 12 kills and six blocks, Marisa Johnson added 10 kills and a team-high 30 digs, Courtney Buss had 26 digs and Brooke Kettleborough had 32 assists for Spencer.

“Hopefully the loss lights a fire under us,” Spencer coach Buff Heller said. “We just made to many unforced errors against a really good team.”

Spencer, the No. 1 seed in its portion of the Division 3 Sectional 2 bracket, hosts Lincoln in a regional quarterfinal Tuesday.
