SHP invests Ronald McDonald House

MARSHFIELD – Security Health Plan (SHP) will invest $1,000 in the Ronald McDonald House, whose mission is to keep families close when it matters most.

Giese nominated the Ronald McDonald House to receive the Employee-Driven Corporate Giving grant, which Security Health Plan awards each month to a different charity or organization that is nominated by a Marshfield Clinic Health System employee. Employees are encouraged to nominate organizations making a positive difference in the community.

Giese, who has been on the Ronald McDonald House board for 18 years, said it is a home away from home for many Neonatal Intensive Care, Pediatric Intensive Care, and Pediatrics and Oncology patients’ families while their child is being cared for at Marshfield Children’s Hospital and Marshfield Medical Center.

“Many families travel long distances to be with their child undergoing medical treatment here,” Giese said. “Over the past 18 years I have seen the impact that the Ronald McDonald House, staff, and volunteers have on our patients and their families. Many of our families would not be able to stay close to their hospitalized infant or child if they did not have a place to stay, food to eat and the support to help them through these difficult days. The Ronald McDonald House provides all of that.”

Giese explained the Ronald McDonald House relies on the generosity of donors and volunteers to meet its mission. She said the Ronald McDonald House turns no family away due to the inability to donate. At the Ronald McDonald House volunteers cook meals for the families, there is space for siblings to play, and it is a place that provides comfort and support to parents and guardians so they can provide comfort and support to their sick child.

Giese said the grant money would be used to update bedding in each of the newly remodeled rooms at the Ronald McDonald House.

“Right now they are using very old linens and blankets that are worn and need updating,” she explained. “They could purchase essentials for families, update kitchen items needed to make meals, purchase new towels and other items they have on their wish list. This donation can also help offset some of the cost related to family stays and make a huge impact on our patients and families, while caring for a hospitalized child.”
