PACT dinner theater to benefit Sarah Freedlund

PITTSVILLE — The Pittsville Area Community Theater is preparing its first ever winter production: a dinner theater and benefit production.

Steve Allar is directing Pat Cook’s “Not a Creature Was Stirring, Not Even a Moose,” which is about a small community newspaper editor, his staff, and the “crooked” mayor confronting their attitudes towards Christmas and their daily motivations. Embroiled in their chaos are the head of the Civic Association, a lady crop duster pilot, a competing newspaper editor, a “magical” janitor, and the local sheriff.

All profits from the performances will go to Sarah Freedlund, a local high school English teacher and drama club coach. Freedlund was diagnosed nine years ago with inflammatory breast cancer, stage 3C. This past August it metastasized to stage 4 breast cancer to the bones.

She continues to teach most days, and last month her high school group put on J. Patrick Moss’ “Crazy, Beautiful” under her direction. She remains an inspiration.

The dinner theater will take place at the Pittsville Community Hall at 8237 Main St., next door to the library. All seats are by reservation only. Tickets are $30 each, which includes dinner and the play, and can be reserved by calling 715-773-0354.

In addition to the main entree, meals include coffee, milk and/or water, and pie and ice cream at intermission.
