LOYAL – One person was killed Saturday afternoon when a van rear-ended a horse-drawn buggy on a Clark County highway, according to the sheriff's office.
The crash occurred just before 3 p.m. Aug. 9 on County Highway K north of Spencer Road in the town of Loyal, the Clark County Sheriff's Office said.
Both the buggy and van were traveling northbound when the collision happened, according to initial investigation. Both vehicles came to rest in the east ditch.
Two people were in the buggy: an adult who died at the scene, and a 12-year-old who was taken to Marshfield Medical Center with serious injuries. The van's driver was not injured.
The Loyal Area Fire and Ambulance Service, Wisconsin State Patrol, Marshfield Fire Ambulance Service and Clark County Coroner's Office responded to the scene.
The investigation is ongoing. Names have not been released.
