Onalaska edges Marshfield girls hockey in season-opener

ONALASKA — The Marshfield girls hockey team lost its season-opener, falling 2-1 to Onalaska in a nonconference matchup Tuesday night at the Omni Hockey Arena.

All of the goals came within 3½ minutes during the second period.

Chazlyn Anderson scored 2:35 into the period for Onalaska to open the scoring.

Marshfield’s Kessa Schreiner responded with a goal off an assist from Kaylee Geiger 3:09 later, but Ashley McCaffrey scored 16 seconds later for the Hilltoppers to give them a 2-1 lead.

Onalaska outshot Marshfield 40-20.

Alexis Straughan had 38 saves for the Tigers.

Marshfield plays Point/Rapids at Wisconsin Rapids on Monday in its Great Northern Conference opener.
