NCCRAHS presents at national FFA expo

COLLEGE STATION, Texas — The National Children’s Center for Rural and Agricultural Health and Safety, a branch of the Marshfield Clinic Research Institute, participated in the #Yes2AgSafety event at the 90th National FFA Convention and Expo held Oct. 25-28 in Indianapolis. Led by the Safety in Agriculture project, which is funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture and National Institute of Food and Agriculture, the #Yes2AgSafety event was attended by more than 5,000 individuals.

The National Children’s Center for Rural and Agricultural Health and Safety and nine other organizations provided hands-on activities, ranging from a tractor rollover demonstration to an “I Spy the Hazard” game, for students to learn about safety in agriculture. With the agriculture field being one of the most dangerous industries in the world, this event was aimed at ensuring youth who are exposed to farm safety-related hazards know of proper safety techniques and procedures to protect themselves.

“This is a great opportunity for us to not only tell our story about our program but to also stress the safety that these kids who are just getting into farming can hopefully remember when they’re out there,” said Linda Tarr, coordinator for Indiana AgrAbility.
