Mentoring programs come together for 'Cooking up Hope'

Pathway Partners, Big Brothers Big Sisters participants prepare meal for Hope Lodge guests

MARSHFIELD — Pathway Partners Mentoring Program and Big Brothers Big Sisters of Wood County had a wonderful time “Cooking up Hope” on Monday, Jan. 18. As part of National Mentoring Month and in recognition of the National Day of Service, the two groups joined together to prepare and serve a meal for the guests of the Hope Lodge. Both groups recognize the benefits of mentoring for young people which includes teaching the value of giving back to the community.

Mentors and mentees enjoyed preparing, setting up, serving, and cleaning up for the meal.

The hot chili, bread, salad, and dessert on one of the coldest nights of the year seemed to be a much appreciated meal for the guests.

Guests commented on how much they enjoyed meeting the young people and witnessing their enthusiasm. The students discovered the special value of this evening by being able to visit and engage with the guests of the Hope Lodge. This personal interaction reinforced the true purpose of community service.

Pathway Partners Mentoring Program was established at Marshfield High School in 1999. This innovative, on-site mentoring program exposes students to nurturing relationships with caring adults and is open to and free for any student at Marshfield High School. These relationships enhance students’ life skills, encourage career exploration, and provide important connections within the community.

Big Brothers Big Sisters of Wood County serves children ages 6 until 18. The “Big” provides a positive, supportive role model and caring friend for a child. These mentoring relationships build responsible, independent children and youth. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Wood County is part of the oldest, largest, and most well-respected youth mentoring organization in America.
