MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield Police Department is asking area residents to check their banking and credit card statements for fraudulent charges.
On Sept. 4, the Marshfield Police Department started to receive numerous complaints related to identity theft.
“The investigation revealed that the suspect used several victims’ financial cards and credit cards to acquire money. The crimes were carried out by the use of a payment processing system, where the suspect would tap the victim’s cards onto a device to receive payment,” a Marshfield Police Department release stated.
The department is asking area residents to review their statements for $25 transactions noted as “SQ*Spectrum.”
The transactions would have occurred between the dates of Sept. 1-5.
“A suspect has been identified and is cooperating with this investigation, which is still pending. Charges related to this investigation will be forthcoming. No further information will be released at this time,” the release added.
If you discover that you have been a victim of identity theft related to this incident, contact Marshfield Police Detective Mack Scheppler by using the Wood County Dispatch non-emergency number (715) 387-4394.
