MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield Post 54 Senior Legion baseball team is off to a 0-3 start this summer.
The Blue Devils lost game one on June 8 in Plover by a final score of 3-2.
The Black Sox won the game on a walk-off triple in the bottom of the seventh inning. Marshfield held a 2-1 lead at one point, and the game was tied at 2 before the game-winning hit.
Logan Matson doubled for Marshfield, and Dakota Landphier had an RBI double as well. He eventually scored on an error for Marshfield’s other run.
Mason Coffren took the loss on the mound for Marshfield, after coming in for starter Jake Brueggen, who pitched the first six innings.
On June 10, the Blue Devils lost both their games at a triangular hosted by De Pere.
Marshfield lost game one 8-4 to De Pere, who grabbed an early 7-1 lead. The Blue Devils had just two hits in that game. Connor Jasurda took the loss in that game for Marshfield.
In their second game, the Devils lost to Manitowoc 7-6, on a walkoff grand slam home run. The Blue Devils took a 6-3 lead into the bottom of the seventh inning, and then Kelvin Veldre ended it with a home run with the bases loaded. Preston Wagner suffered the loss on the mound for Marshfield, who was led offensively by Matt Handrick of Stratford, who went 3-for4 with a double and two runs driven in. Jake Brueggen went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and four runs batted in. Ben Gust was 2-for-4, and Isaiah Baierl and Eli Drexler were each 2-for-3.
