MARSHFIELD — Marshfield area residents are welcome to register for garden bed space through Marshfield Clinic and Healthy Lifestyles – Marshfield Area Coalition’s Growing Together Community Gardens.
Growing Together Community Gardens promote and support local food production, learning and sharing gardening techniques, and provide a place to garden. Growing your own vegetables promotes healthier nutrition, reduces food costs, provides food security, fosters a community activity, reduces carbon footprint through local food production, and provides physical and emotional wellness.
Garden beds are available at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, including handicap-accessible beds; St. Alban’s Ministry Center; and First Presbyterian Church.
Each bed is divided into 32 squares to support the square-foot gardening technique used at all three sites. Square-foot gardening improves productivity of gardens, reduces water requirements, and helps keep out weeds.
No gardening experience is necessary. Gardeners are encouraged to make a $15 donation to help support the community gardens. A one-hour orientation session is required for all new gardeners. In addition, volunteer opportunities are available.
Visit Marshfield Clinic Healthy Lifestyles – Marshfield Area Coalition page at volunteermarshfield.org for more information on volunteering. Contact Community Garden Coordinator Jordyn Quast at 715-221-8400 or healthy.lifestyles@marshfieldclinic.org to reserve a garden bed.
