Marshfield girls tennis ends season at WIAA Division 1 subsectional

No Tigers qualify for sectional tournament

WISCONSIN RAPIDS — The Marshfield girls tennis team had its season come to an end at the WIAA Division 1 Girls Tennis Subsectional on Monday at Wisconsin Rapids Lincoln High School.

Those reaching the semifinals in No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles, and those reaching the finals in the other flights, moved on to the Division 1 sectional at Wausau West on Thursday.

The top four finishers in No. 1 singles and doubles, and top two in No. 2 singles and doubles, at the sectional qualify for the 2017 WIAA State Individual Girls Tennis Tournament on Oct. 12-13 in Madison. The sectional team champion earns a berth in the 2017 WIAA State Team Girls Tennis Tournament on Oct. 20-21 in Madison.

Wausau East had all four of its singles players and all three of its doubles teams move on to sectionals, and it leads the team standings with 24 points, four ahead of Stevens Point.

Marshfield earned four points with two match victories. No match details were provided.
