Marshfield Blue Demons open season with doubleheader split

Brueggen tosses shutout for Marshfield

MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield Clinic Post 54 Blue Demons Junior Legion baseball team opened its season Tuesday by splitting a doubleheader with Wisconsin Rapids.

Marshfield won 7-0 before losing the second game 7-1 at Jack Hackman Field.

In the opener Jacob Brueggen struck out seven and earned the win with a complete-game shutout.

Jared Klein, Paul Maguire, and Scott Berg each had two hits for the Blue Demons.

In the second game, Brueggen and Berg each had a hit, and Berg scored Marshfield’s lone run.

Billy Young took the loss for the Blue Demons.

Marshfield hosts Plover for a doubleheader starting at 5:30 p.m. Friday.
