MARSHFIELD – Main Street Marshfield has a new executive director.
Carter Howe, who recently relocated from the Fox River Valley to Marshfield, joined the organization on Oct. 13.
“I got my degree from Lawrence University, which is a liberal arts college in Appleton. I went through the music program. I was a horn player, and got my degree in horn performance with a minor in pedagogy, which is teaching outside of the classroom,” Howe recalled. “And my music degree really taught me the value of active listening and community, and that we're all part of the whole, right? My experience at Lawrence led me to my internship with Heid Music company.
“I started out as an intern for them, doing instrument repair, and then they found out that I was good with the computer, and so I started doing some rental contracts for them, and eventually that led to, after graduation, a full-time position with their marketing web team.
“I gained a lot of experience in customer service, in marketing and web design and SEO, and that led to this position eventually, through a couple of connections that I made with the Marshfield Chamber of Commerce.”
Howe said that he enjoys “community building” and “doing something greater than myself.”
“I think that Appleton is a really unique city because they have a very vibrant downtown, and they have a lot of music events down there,” he added.
“I've watched Appleton grow over the past six years that I've lived there, and I think Marshfield is next. I can see that we are right at that point where we have some opportunity for some real growth here.
“So I think it's really exciting that I might be able to come into this position at this point where we can start to see that growth, and I'm trying to potentially lead and develop that.”
Howe hopes to continue to build on that momentum downtown.
As his top goals, he lists “developing growth, increasing walkability and hosting creative events that support businesses and continue the community’s connection to music.”
Main Street Marshfield was formed in 1990 by a group of about 40 local business people, professionals and city officials as a not-for-profit, volunteer-centric corporation.
Its mission is to energize and strengthen Downtown Marshfield.
The Main Street Marshfield office is located in The Coven at 211 S. Central Ave., Marshfield.
