Local teams participate in Auburndale invite

Stratford claims first, while the Dons take second

MARSHFIELD – Multiple local teams took part in the Auburndale Varsity Volleyball Tournament held Sept. 8 at Auburndale High School.

The Columbus Dons volleyball team took second place, defeating Auburndale 25-7, 23-25 and beating Spencer 25-10, 25-12. The Dons were also winners over Iola-Scandinavia 25-15, 25-11 and beat Stevens Point Pacelli 25-20, 25-13. The Dons suffered losses to Mosinee 23-25, 18-25 and Stratford 21-25, 16-25.

"This tournament had a lot of high caliber volleyball teams playing”, said Columbus coach Kat Egle. “The competition forced Kenzie Hansen and Jessica Jakopin to practice utilizing our quick offense. Brooke Neider did a fabulous job of spreading out the sets to all of our hitters. Our back row passed well and got touches on almost every hit."

Brooke Neider had 111 assists and 26 digs, Annie Baierl had 51 digs and Katie Hall had 28 digs. Kate Turchi had 30 kills and 27 digs, Kenzie Hansen had 27 kills, Maren Seefluth had 17 kills and 40 digs, Jess Jakopin had 17 kills and 10 blocks and Dorci Walker had 13 kills.

Stratford dominated much of the tournament. Besides beating Columbus, the Tigers beat Pacelli 25-12, 25-15. The Tigers also defeated Iola-Scandinavia 25-13, 25-7 and Assumption 25-16, 25-9. The Tigers defeated Prentice 25-12, 25-14 and held off Mosinee 25-16, 22-25, 15-5, to secure first place.

Besides losing to Columbus, Spencer suffered a loss to Prentice 17-25, 12-25. The Rockets also got beat by Auburndale 10-25, 11-25. Assumption defeated Spencer 25-23, 15-25, 13-15. The Rockets also lost to Iola-Scandinavia 25-23, 25-27, 11-15.

Carsee Neitzel had one ace, one assist, and 90 digs for Spencer. Chloe Drews added five aces, 16 kills, one assist, seven blocks, and seven digs. Elexa Post scored two aces, 17 kills, one assist, and 17 digs, while Heavyn Kind had 18 kills and two digs. Lindsey Loos had kills, four assists, two blocks, and dig, and Shelbi Hoefs recorded two aces, 12 kills, one assist, one block, and 19 digs. Taylor Hall had one ace, one kill, and 15 digs. Zalexis Mannigel scored two aces, 45 assists, two blocks, and 11 digs for the Rockets.
