Little Shop of Horrors coming to MHS stage

MARSHFIELD – After a three-year hiatus, the Marshfield High School Drama Club students will present one of the most widely-produced musicals in person. “Little Shop of Horrors” debuted in 1982, with songs that have become popular with audiences. The production is also known for its oversized “talking” plant manipulated with puppeteering.

“Don’t be scared by the title – the musical was brought to life to make fun of the corniness of the original B-movie, and actually has no scenes intended to scare the audience.  At the core of this musical is a genuine love story, wonderful tunes worthy to be sung along with, and a lesson about the triumphs and perils of success,” a drama club release stated.

Cast includes junior Stephanie Mews as Audrey, sophomore Draven Sickler as Seymour, senior Tylan Cokl as Mr.Mushnik, sophomore Henry Johnson as the voice of the plant, and sophomore Jaime Boero as the dentist. The “Doo-Wop” girls feature senior Caroline Thompson as Ronnette, sophomore Arabelle Ellsworth as Crystal, sophomore Kayleigh Johnson as Chantel and freshman Kylah Pugh as Chiffon.  These characters act as the “Greek Chorus” for the musical.

Other actors include Gavin Peckham as the First Customer, Samantha Snortheim as Ms. Bernstein, Mick Steltenpohl as the agent Skip Snip, Makayla Schwantes as Mrs. Luce the editor’s wife, as the narrator and interviewer, Charlotte Johnson as PatMartin, and an ensemble of students performing as New York citizens, whinos, and customers.
