WISCONSIN RAPIDS – A Lincoln High School student is moving on to compete in the national DAR Good Citizen Scholarship Contest. Madelyn Hepp won the North Central Division of the Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizen Award. At the national competition, she will vie for one of two $5,000 scholarships.
The Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizens Award and Scholarship Contest, created in 1934, is intended to encourage and reward the qualities of good citizenship.
This award aims to recognize and reward individuals who possess the qualities of dependability, service, leadership, and patriotism in their homes, schools, and communities. These students are selected by their teachers and peers because they demonstrate these qualities to an outstanding degree.
The Ah Dah Wa Gam chapter of the DAR recognized four students as their High School DAR Good Citizens, Sadie Donahue of Assumption, Colin Cronan of John Edwards, Madelyn Hepp of Lincoln and Ruth Durrant of Pittsville High School.
Hepp will compete at the national level in June. Two national winners will be selected from the national division winners. These students will be invited to Washington, DC to attend the DAR Continental Congress and will be awarded $5,000 scholarships, inscribed silver bowls, and certificates.
