Kwik Trip location appears headed to Marshfield’s southeast side

Additional development possible in the area

MARSHFIELD — A new, 7,000-square-foot Kwik Trip could open on Marshfield’s southeast side before the end of 2016.

The land on which Kwik Trip is looking to build is owned by Draxler Enterprises. It was not immediately clear if Kwik Trip and Draxler had closed on a deal for the transfer of land ownership. However, Director of Development Services Jason Angell was confident given the steps that have already been taken to prepare the property for use that, “It’s definitely going to happen.”

Angell said Kwik Trip has not yet requested permits for construction, but the city’s plan commission did approve a request to allow significant signage for the gas station and convenience store, which will be located at 4000 S. Draxler Drive near the intersection of Heritage Drive and Veterans Parkway. The building permits will only need to be approved by city staff, not the common council, once requested.

Previously the city approved annexation of the land, on which the Kwik Trip is planned to be built, into the city of Marshfield from the town of Marshfield so that utility service could be extended to the store site. Angell said utility service extension is currently underway. The city has also approved the necessary commercial zoning requirement for the property.

Angell said construction is planned to begin in August with the store opening “by the end of the year.” He did not have cost estimates for the project.

“It’s a good impact for us, especially getting development started down in the Highway 10 corridor. Ever since Highway 10 was under construction, we really wanted to see the development happen out in that area,” Angell said.

He added that Draxler Enterprises has made another approximately 15 acres available for future development.

“We’re optimistic that additional development will follow in this same area,” Angell said.
