Jodie L. Sanken, 46, Pittsville, died peacefully Thursday, January 5, 2017 at her home.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, January 9, 2017 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Pittsville, with Rev. Gary Markworth officiating. Burial will take place in Mound Cemetery, Pittsville. The visitation will be held on Sunday from 12:00 pm until 4:00 pm at Buchanan / Rembs Funeral Home, Pittsville and from 10:00 am on Monday until service time at St. John’s Lutheran Church.

Jodie was born on January 19, 1970 in Wadena, Minnesota, the daughter of Orin and Dorothy (Wallgren) Petersen and was a 1988 graduate of New York Mills, Minnesota High School. She then received her Bachelor of Science in English Education degree from the University of Minnesota, Moorhead in 1993. She later received her Secondary Education Certification and then Technology (Library) Media Specialist Certification.

Jodie had been a Junior and Senior High School English teacher at Lake Park/Audubon School District in Lake Park, MN, from 1992 until 1993, then at Granton Public Schools from 1994 until 2001 and from 2001 until the present time a Junior High School English teacher for the Pittsville School District where she also was the school (librarian) Media Specialist. She was an active member of the wrestling club, was a forensics and volleyball coach and was involved in drama as a play director. She was involved with remodeling the school library and led the Junior High Washington DC trip. She enjoyed baking, reading, playing cards with family and friends, and scrapbooking.

Jodie was united in marriage to Todd A. Sanken on May 23, 1992 in New York Mills, MN.

She is survived by her husband, Todd and their daughters, Jenna C. Sanken (good friend – Adam Sturgis) and Lydia R. Sanken, all of Pittsville. She is also survived by her parents, Orin and Dorothy Petersen of New York Mills, MN, and her sisters, Kay (Karl) Swanson, Kathy (Jon) Tumberg, Jill (Gary) Lonneman and Mary Jo (Doug) Brennan. She is further survived by many nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her brother, Gregg Petersen.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be designated in Jodie’s name to the family.
