Great minds match wits in ‘Picasso at the Lapin Agile’

MARSHFIELD — Imagine a chance meeting between two of the greatest minds of the 20th century. Albert Einstein and Pablo Picasso, both before they transform the world, match wits and creative chops in  “Picasso at the Lapin Agile” presented by UW-Marshfield/Wood County’s Campus Community Players April 14-16 at 7:30 p.m. and an April 17 matinee at 2 p.m. at the Helen Connor Laird Theater.

Written by Steve Martin, “Picasso at the Lapin Agile” is directed by Damian Ernest, assistant professor of communications and theatre arts.

“This play is ridiculous at times and very poetic and thoughtful for stretches. It’s part farce, part comedy, part history play, and an examination of art and its place in the world. This mixing of styles is what makes it resonate for a wide audience,” said Ernest.

The cast includes Joshua Carr as Freddy, Greg Jackan as Gaston, Jillian Jackan as Germaine, Pierce Ducsay as Albert Einstein, Chelsea Judnic as Suzanne, Chad Breitzke as Sagot, Marshall Van Over as Pablo Picasso, Aaron Pospyhalla as Schmendiman, and Dennis Friedrichsen as A Visitor.

Tickets are $12 and can be purchased online at marshfield.uwc.edu or by calling the campus box office at 715-389-6534. Box office hours are from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday and Friday and for the week of the production will be open from 4:30 p.m. until show time and noon to 2 p.m. on Sunday.
