Get to know your neighbor

This week’s featured Marshfield resident is Mel Henrichs. She is a nurse at the Marshfield Clinic and lives on Magee Street in Marshfield.

Hub City Times: How long have you been in Marshfield?

Mel Henrichs: I have lived in Marshfield for, let’s see, I moved back in 2010.

HCT: Before that where were you?

MH: I lived in Madison for two and a half years.

HCT: What did you do there?

MH: I went to school at the University of Wisconsin.

HCT: What did you study?

MH: Nursing.

HCT: What do you like about the Marshfield community?

MH: I like that everyone’s very friendly. I like that you can go somewhere and almost always have a good conversation with someone. I like all the events: Oktoberfest, I like Dairy Fest, Hub City Days.

HCT: What are some of your favorite things to do in Marshfield?

MH: I like to go biking. I like to utilize some of the trails like that Wildwood Station Trail. I like to go to some of the local restaurants. If I’m going to go out for a meal, I’ll try to support the local places like the Brew Pub, Daily Grind, Kitchen Table. I think those are, like, pretty unique to Marshfield, some gems.

HCT: What is your favorite place to go out to eat?

MH: Kitchen Table.

HCT: Is there something you would like to see changed about Marshfield?

MH: Maybe even extending the trail system further and more opportunities for outdoor recreation, wildlife-type stuff like hiking trails.

HCT: Along those lines, are you excited there is going to be a new bear pen at Wildwood Zoo?

MH: I’m very excited, very excited. The bridge looks sweet.

HCT: Do you feel like there is enough of a social scene for a young person in Marshfield, or is the city more built for families?

MH: Definitely more based for families, but I think being 25 and not ready to have a family yet, I think there’s still lots of opportunity to socialize, meet people. I guess it’s an attitude thing though too. If you’re already an outgoing person and like meeting new people, then it’s not really a problem.

HCT: Do you plan on staying here long-term?

MH: I don’t know. It depends on where my career takes me. There’s lots of opportunity here to expand my career as far as certifications and taking on new roles with more responsibility. Long-term I could possibly get my masters in nurse anesthesia. If I get restless, I may decide to be a travel nurse for a few years, but I definitely could see myself after those accomplishments coming back here and raising a family here if that’s what is in my future.
