COLBY -- The Colby School District Center building, which formerly operated as one of Colby's elementary schools, was torn down April 21 to prepare for the city's new library facilities.

The building was once home to Colby's Kindergarten through Third Grade classes, before it was converted into office space for the district. The remaining structure was a portion of the original school facilities. An older portion was torn down due to its declining state.

The demolition is in preparation for a $2.2 million library project. Groundbreaking for the new library will take place Monday, May 1 at the site, located at 505 West Spence Street, Colby. At that time, the proposed name for the new library will be unveiled.
