MARSHFIELD –The Marshfield Civic Band will begin its concert season on June 15 with its first regular weekly concert at the Columbia Park bandshell beginning at 7:30 p.m.  Subsequent weekly concerts will be held every Wednesday at the same time and place through July 20.

Wrapping up the season will be a special “Grand Sousa Concert” to be held at 7 p.m. at the Oak Avenue Community Center gymnasium on July 27.

“Members of St.John’s church will again be selling pie and ice cream during the concerts, and the traditional Kiddie Parade will again be held at every concert. Culver’s Restaurant of Marshfield will be providing a free ice cream token to every child participating at the concerts,” a release from the band stated.

“Outdoor summer public band concerts in Marshfield are a community tradition dating back to 1895, when the ‘Badger Band’ began playing. In the years since then the Marshfield Civic Band has evolved from various National Guard regiment bands and a Civil Air Patrol band.

“The current bandshell at Columbia Park was completed in 1931 and was structurally-remodeled in 2010.”

The current band consists of 40 musicians, under the direction of Robert Johanek.
