Council members and Mayor Meyer to focus on long-range vision for Marshfield

MARSHFIELD — Prior to next Tuesday’s city council meeting, council members and Mayor Chris Meyer will participate in the first of potentially several strategic planning sessions.
At the session group members will discuss big picture items to form a vision for the future of the city. City Administrator Steve Barg said it would be an opportunity to talk about issues and ideas that they normally are unable to cover in a council meeting.
“At the (regular city council) meetings … we’re always talking about ordinances and resolutions and policies and all of the front-burner stuff,” Barg said. “We very rarely have time to talk about longer range things like, ‘Hey, what do you want the city to look like in five years.’”
Barg said he expected each meeting participant to posit a few ideas for long-range goals or improvements to the city, and in subsequent meetings the group would begin to develop strategies to achieve those goals.
Barg added that by late spring or early summer of 2015 the meetings will hopefully have produced a consensus on a few key goals and strategies to achieve them.
The first strategic planning session will take place Tuesday, Feb. 10, at City Hall Plaza in Marshfield room 108 starting at 5:30 p.m.
