MARSHFIELD — In “Rest,” presented by the UW-Marshfield/Wood County’s Campus Community Players, a rural Idaho nursing home is shutting down, and only three residents and a barebones staff remain when a resident goes missing during a blizzard. The anxious staff can barely handle packing up the facility let alone searching snow drifts for a missing person. Shows are April 20-22 at 7:30 p.m. and a matinee April 23 at 2 p.m. in the Helen Connor Laird Theater.

“Rest” is written by Samuel D. Hunter and directed by Damian Ernest, assistant professor of communications and theatre arts. “Rest” looks at the complexities of death, grief, dementia, surrogacy, moral responsibility, and euthanasia.

“This is a sometimes funny though often tragic play, and that’s the world that Samuel D. Hunter is prone to create,” said Ernest.

Hunter has been awarded several awards and commissions by the age of 36.

“He represents a new generation of American drama, and I would like our audiences to witness what that means. He is very much in touch with the 21st century and the complications that we face in the present while still dealing with timeless issues that speak to multiple generations,” Ernest said.

The cast includes UW-Marshfield/Wood County students Carly Rhyner and Justin Bakos; former students Joshua Carr and Chelsea Judnic; and community members Roxie Wetterau, Ed Krall, and Chad Breitzke.

Tickets $12 and can be purchased online at msftickets.uwc.edu or by phone at 715-389-6534. This production is sponsored by the Laird Fund for the Arts.
