MARSHFIELD — The Campus Community Players will present A.R. Gurney’s two-character play “Love Letters” in the Black Box Theatre at UW-Marshfield/Wood County on July 15, 20, 21, an 22 at 7:30 p.m. and on July 16 at 2 p.m.

The narrative follows a lifelong relationship between Andrew Makepeace Ladd III, played by Brian Clark, and Melissa Gardner, played by Joelle Clark, that begins with a simple invitation to a second-grade birthday party and progresses through 50 years of correspondence. The bittersweet story of love and friendship unfolds from what is written — and what is left unsaid — in their letters.

Making her directorial debut with “Love Letters” is Roxie Wetterau, who has appeared in several Campus Community Players productions.

“It is exciting to take my passion for theater to the next level by directing a play written in and about a world where letter writing was very much an essential form of communication. I think audiences will appreciate the nostalgia of this simple but emotionally rich play,” Wetterau said.

Damian Ernest, assistant professor of communications and theater arts, will design the technical elements of the production.

General admission tickets are $8 and can be purchased online at msftickets.uwc.edu or by phone at 715-389-6534. The production is sponsored by the Laird Fund for the Arts with additional support from the Dave Rhyner Fund.
