MARSHFIELD--Bone & Joint Clinic, S.C., announced the additions of Dr. Charles Hansen, a fellowship-trained orthopedic spine surgeon, and Dr. Kurt Lawton, a fellowship-trained sports medicine specialist, to its provider team.
Dr. Hansen joined the team in Oct. 2024, serving patients at Bone & Joint’s Wausau and Plover locations. A highly skilled orthopedic spine surgeon, he specializes in spine surgeries and treatments for the neck and back, providing innovative solutions to help patients regain mobility and alleviate pain.
“I quickly realized that, through spine care, I have the opportunity to significantly improve patients’ quality of life,” said Dr. Hansen. “Joining Bone & Joint was a natural fit, as its commitment to compassionate care aligns perfectly with my philosophy of care.”
Dr. Hansen completed his medical training at Indiana University School of Medicine, followed by an orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Nebraska and a fellowship in spine surgery at the University of Wisconsin. He is affiliated with renowned professional organizations such as the North American Spine Society (NASS) and the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons (AAOS).
With the addition of Dr. Hansen, Bone & Joint is now able to offer comprehensive spine care services at all of its clinics, with long-time spine surgeon Dr. Benjamin Hackett seeing patients in Medford and Merrill.

In Nov. 2024, Bone & Joint welcomed Dr. Kurt Lawton, seeing patients in Rib Mountain, Medford and Merrill. A Central Wisconsin native, Dr. Lawton’s expertise includes the diagnosis and treatment of concussions, non-operative fracture management, musculoskeletal injury and pain, athletic event coverage, sports team medical management and osteopathic manipulative treatment.
“Choosing a career in sports medicine allows me to combine my passion for medicine and athletics to make a real impact on people’s lives,” said Dr. Lawton. “Being part of Bone & Joint’s team in the area where I grew up is a meaningful opportunity to give back to the community I care deeply about.”
Dr. Lawton is fellowship-trained in ultrasound-guided injections and has earned his medical degree from the Liberty University College of Osteopathic Medicine, followed by a residency at Fox Valley Family Medicine and a fellowship at the Medical College of Wisconsin Sports Medicine. He is board-certified in family medicine and primary care sports medicine and is connected to respected organizations like the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine (AMSSM).
“We are committed to meeting the unique needs of our patients, whether they are recovering from an injury, managing chronic pain or seeking to improve their quality of life through comprehensive care,” said Brent Turner, CEO of Bone & Joint. “Additions to our team, like Dr. Hansen and Dr. Lawton, reflect our focus on delivering expert care close to home.”
