Apaches compile 500 yards of total offense in home victory

AUBURNDALE — The Auburndale football team got its offense rolling for the first time this season as it piled up an even 500 yards in a 42-6 rout of Chequamegon in a Marawood Conference game Friday night at Auburndale High School.
The Apaches, who had been held to just seven points over their first two games, scored three touchdowns in the second quarter and three more in the second half to pull away for the victory.
Collin Hawkins ran for 128 yards and a touchdown, Aaron Willfahrt had 125 yards on the ground and two scores, and Jake Peplinski added 101 yards and three TDs as Auburndale gained 392 yards rushing.
Ryan Isaacson added 108 yards passing — 58 to Cam Ertl on a pair of passes — for the Apaches.
Auburndale’s defense also stepped up a big way, giving up just 22 total yards and two first downs in the dominating victory.
Chequamegon’s only score came on a 100-yard interception return for a touchdown by Peter Newburg in the first quarter.
Auburndale (1-2 overall and Marawood Conference) returns to action Sept. 9 with a nonconference game at Osseo-Fairchild.
