MARSHFIELD — Government can often seem intimidating and inaccessible, but a renewed series from Marshfield Community Television aims to eliminate some of the mystery surrounding local public servants.
Hosted by Carrie Lippert, “Meet Your Alderman” features short interviews with each of the 10 common council members and Mayor Chris Meyer.
Alderpersons were asked about their background, family, interests, passion for Marshfield, and other friendly topics. Perhaps most importantly, the program showcases that anyone with a passion for the community can make a difference.
“I believe that the ‘Meet Your Alderman’ program is very beneficial because it allows citizens to get to know their elected officials in a setting where there are no big issues being debated or votes that must be cast,” said City Administrator Steve Barg. “It provides a helpful glimpse into who they are, why they have chosen to serve on the council.”
“Aldermen are real people and are taxpayers too,” added Tom Buttke, alderman for District 9.
Throughout the series a common theme was civic duty and community involvement. Each representative stressed the importance of all citizens to become educated and involved in local government.
The program will begin with a marathon airing on Saturday, Aug. 8, starting at noon. Subsequent episodes will air every Tuesday at 1 p.m. and 8 p.m.
All episodes are available to all Charter Cable subscribers on channels 989 and 991 and online at marshfieldtv.com or MCTV’s YouTube channel.
