Police called to Marshfield home for possible bomb

MARSHFIELD – The Marshfield Police Department was called to a residence at 2002 N. Lincoln Ave. at 10:49 a.m. on Jan. 11 to investigate a possible explosive device in the front yard of the home.
“The homeowner reported a strange looking device in his front yard,” said Chief Gramza. “He had also reported that there was some concern over a relationship that he had or a conversation that he had with another individual from the Marshfield area that may have led to this.”
The scare closed off a portion of Lincoln Avenue, from McMillan Street to Shortess Drive, as the nearest bomb squad, Marathon County, was called in to address the situation.
“I believe that Fort McCoy and Volk Field have a bomb squad that could respond from the Sparta area, Milwaukee has a bomb squad, but the closest to us is Marathon County’s bomb squad that rarely, but occasionally, we do have to reach out to and ask for assistance,” Gramza said.
The suspicious device was later determined to be two fireworks mortar shells taped into PVC pipe. The matter is under further investigation. Chief Gramza stated that they do have a person of interest.
