Step back in time: Aug. 13-19 in Hub City history

Ten years ago
BackTrax Band has performed for Marshfield patrons for more than 20 years, playing songs ranging from polka, blues, and country to rock ‘n’ roll. The band members were Don Kerper, 53; Wayne Jellish, 57; Al Duerr, 54; Donnie Kieffer, 70; and Aaron Jellish, 31.
Twenty-five years ago
Bruce King, a 1973 graduate of Marshfield Senior High School, was named the School District of Marshfield’s new assistant superintendent/human resources director. King’s annual salary, approved by the board of education, was set at $65,000.
Fifty years ago
Being reconstructed in Chili was a horse-drawn water sprinkler that was built and delivered to Mackinac Island in 1870. Belgian horse breeder Willis Stichert sent Elroy Frieze to the island to see the old wagon and purchase it for $50. Stichert planned to have his Belgian horses pull the wagon through fairs and parades around Wisconsin.
Seventy-five years ago
Formerly the commanding officer of Marshfield’s 135th Medical Regiment Band, Warrant Officer Charles Braem directed the combined Camp Grant and Fort Sheridan post bands at Soldiers Field in Chicago. Braem for the past three years had been the director of the Fort Sheridan post band.
