Letter to the editor: Reader supports Leifheit for school board
Dear editor,
I encourage readers to support Amber Leifheit for board of education. When Amber was director of the Pathway Partners Mentoring Program at Marshfield High School, the program grew in numbers and financial stability. Amber facilitated numerous fundraisers to increase revenue for operating expenses during a time of shrinking resources. She volunteered as a mentor herself, providing numerous community service opportunities for her mentee.
Amber is a servant leader. At heart she is a servant first, making conscious decisions to lead in order to better serve others, not to increase her own power. Unlike leadership approaches with a top-down hierarchical style, Amber demonstrates collaboration, trust, empathy, and the ethical use of power. What a refreshing perspective.
As executive director of the Marshfield Area Community Foundation, the assets of the foundation have grown from $2.8 million to $12.6 million with over 170 different funds. Amber plays a significant role in fiscal management of the foundation’s funds for the good of our community.
Amber believes that emphasis on academic and career planning is essential for all students. She serves on the School-to-Career Council and endorses business and education partnerships that engage students in work-based learning with local employers. She understands that Marshfield needs well-trained young adults to work in the trades as well as technology, health care, and other careers.
During her recent term on the board of education, Amber supported establishing a Board of Education Communication Committee. This initiative was a priority for Amber because she values the importance of open and ongoing communication with the public.
She is actively engaged in the community. She served as president of Sunrise Rotary in 2013-2014, is a member of Chapter CY PEO, serves on the United Way Allocations Committee, helps with the Nutrition On Weekends program, and the fourth-grade math league.
During this challenging time in public education, we need board members who demonstrate foresight, seek input and truly listen to others, collaborate as team players, and demonstrate fiscal responsibility. I believe Amber demonstrates these traits with a genuine heart for educating all children. Please vote Leifheit for board of education.
