P.E.O. Holiday Boutique coming to Holiday Inn
For Hub City Times
MARSHFIELD — The annual P.E.O. Holiday Boutique will be held Nov. 21 at the Holiday Inn in Marshfield. Boutique shopping hours are 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. with a cookie walk at 11 a.m.
The Holiday Inn is located at 750 S. Central Ave. in Marshfield. Five P.E.O. chapters sponsor the event, which provides a day of holiday shopping and visiting. Twenty-four vendors and artists are featured besides crafts and foods sold by P.E.O. members. Those vendors will sell a wide variety of items, including food, jewelry, wood carvings, and much more.
The Holiday Boutique is open to the public with a $1 charge for browsing. P.E.O. stands for Philanthropic Educational Organization, and proceeds from the event help fund scholarships for women at the local, national, and international level.
New artist to be showcased
Dan Vidaillet is a new artist who will be presenting his work at the P.E.O. Holiday Boutique. SilverFolk expresses Vidaillet’s process of changing stainless steel silverware into unique, handmade sculptures that he designs himself.
Growing up in Marshfield has given Vidaillet opportunities to attend art classes in high school and college. He is interested in many art forms, including pottery, jewelry making, and photography.
His inspiration comes from varied sources. Childhood memories in Florida have inspired Vidaillet to make pieces resembling complex marine life, some of which are up to 4 feet tall.
“I love that my art makes people happy,” he said. Vidaillet has long been inspired by Clyde Wynia of Jurustic Park. Vidaillet’s family also inspires his art work.
Vidaillet has been making his own designs for several years using stainless steel, particularly silverware.
“I love the elegant simplicity of the material and enjoy crafting a story in each of my handmade pieces,” added Vidaillet.
His sculptures have included snowboarders, children flying kites and holding balloons, ice fishermen, hunters, and musicians playing various instruments.
“It is a challenge to capture movement and place emotions of our human experience into my sculptures of stainless steel,” he said. Most of the silverware used for Vidaillet’s pieces comes from estate sales, garage sales, and thrift stores. He has also received some interesting pieces from friends and satisfied customers.
Sculpture pieces can take anywhere from a few hours to a few months to produce. SilverFolk art is available at art and craft shows throughout the area, but he will consider consignment arrangements. This month his work is being featured in his first ever gallery exhibit at the LuCille Tack Center for the Arts in Spencer. He can be contacted at 715-207-7780 or by email at [email protected].
