WOOD COUNTY — A bench warrant is out for a convicted sex offender who is charged with giving a false name, a violation of his lifetime registration on the sex offender list.
Jason Retzke, 41, of Rosholt is charged with identifying himself under a different name than that on the sex offender registry, a violation of the sex offender name change rules. State statutes require that Retzke always identify himself with the name on the registry. The charge is a class H felony, which if convicted carries a maximum sentence of six years imprisonment, a $10,000 fine, or both.
After Retzke failed to make his initial appearance in Wood County Circuit Court on Oct. 12, Judge Gregory J. Potter issued a bench warrant for Retzke’s arrest.
According to court documents, on March 30 Marshfield police officers met with a woman who reported a violation of the sex offender registry. She said she met with a man named Jason who she had found on a dating site. The woman reportedly met Retzke on March 28. She invited him into her home, which she shares with two children. At the time he reportedly identified his last name as Wimerski.
After Retzke left the woman’s home, she used the internet to search the phone number that Retzke had given her. It was then she learned of Retzke’s true identity. After reporting to police, the woman confirmed Retzke’s identity against photos provided by police.
Retzke was convicted of second degree sexual assault of a child on Feb. 27, 2001. He is to remain on the sex offender registry for life.
