MARSHFIELD — There are an estimated 5.8 million people in the United States who have Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias, including 5.6 million aged 65 and older and about 200,000 under the age of 65 with younger-onset Alzheimer’s.

With so many affected by Alzheimer’s today or concerned about a future diagnosis, Stoney River Marshfield’s Memory Support experts are a valuable, local source of information and advice.

“Our goal is to help people feel more comfortable talking about Alzheimer’s and understand that, even with memory loss, there are still joyful life experiences to be had,” said Stoney River’s Memory Support Manger Lizz Richards, LPN. “We can make Alzheimer’s more manageable for those afflicted and their families through education, support and access to resources.”

To that end, Stoney River’s free educational series for the public aims to shed light on Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. Three presentations will be held from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Wednesdays, May 10, May 24, and June 7 at Stoney River’s Memory Support community, located at 1606 St. Joseph Ave., Marshfield. The presentations are:

“Understanding Alzheimer’s and Dementia,” with speaker Julie St. Pierre of the Alzheimer’s Association on May 10;

“Understanding and Responding to Dementia-Related Behavior,” with speaker Julie St. Pierre of the Alzheimer’s Association on May 24;

“Delirium, Dementia and Depression,” with speaker Leanne Oelrich of St. Croix Hospice on June 7.
