Marshfield Council seeks Audit Committee members

MARSHFIELD — The City of Marshfield Common Council seeks members to serve on its newly-formed Audit Committee. This committee is charged with providing the citizens and taxpayers of Marshfield the most significant degree of assurance that all public finances and expenditures are being managed according to all legal, professional, and administrative best practices.

The committee is comprised of three Marshfield residents with a basic understanding of local government, and at least one person with a background in finance, accounting, or public finance is required.
Residents wishing to serve on this committee must submit a letter of interest to the Clerk’s office by noon on Friday, May 26. All letters of interest will be reviewed by the Common Council to be considered for serving on the committee. Initially, one member will serve a one-year term, a second member a two-year term, and a third member will serve for three. After that, all members shall do a period of three years.
The goals of the committee are: enhanced accountability, integrity, and efficiency in the financial operations of the City of Marshfield; Provide citizens, Common Council, and taxpayers with the highest possible transparency regarding the city’s fiscal matters; Support city government efforts to comply with those laws and regulations by which the city is governed; Provide the Common Council with an independent assessment of 1) the financial statements of the city and other financial information provided to the public, 2) the systems of internal controls, including overseeing compliance by management with applicable policies and procedures and risk management, and 3) the annual independent audit process, including the recommended engagement of and receiving of all ports from the independent certified public accountants.
