Spencer teen killed in northeast Wisconsin identified

FLORENCE – Ashton Curtin of Spencer was killed when his vehicle crossed the center line, and collided head-on with another vehicle. The accident happened on Saturday, Nov. 5th on US Highway 2 near Westrin Rd. in the Town of Florence.
According to Florence County Sheriff Dan Miller, an eastbound vehicle driven by Curtin crossed the center line and struck a westbound vehicle in a head-on type crash.
Curtin, 18, was the lone occupant of his vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The westbound vehicle was driven by Brent Ellis, 65, from Crystal Falls, MI. Ellis and his passenger, 57-year-old Kenneth Henry from Magnolia, TX, were transported to Marshfield Medical Center-Dickinson in Iron Mountain, MI, and were reported to be in serious condition following the crash.
The crash remains under investigation by the Florence County Sheriff’s Office and Wisconsin State Patrol.
Ashton Curtin was a 2022 graduate of Spencer High School, where he was a member of the wrestling team.
A candlelight vigil in Ashton’s honor and memory will be held Saturday, Nov. 12 at 4 p.m. at 609 N. Pacific St. Spencer High School has agreed to allow anyone to park in their lot during the event.
