Strong finish for MMS tennis team

STEVENS POINT — The Marshfield Middle School girls’ tennis team wrapped up its season Sept. 29 with a tournament format, facing St. Peters (Pacelli) and James Williams Middle (Rhinelander) at Goerke Park tennis courts in Stevens Point.

Marshfield captured first-place finishes in both the singles and doubles brackets, along with adding second place in the doubles bracket.

Lilly Griesbach finished first in Marshfield’s singles bracket, defeating Reese (St. Peters) 4-0, Taylor (James Williams Middle) 4-0, Audrey Luedtke (Marshfield teammate) 4-3 and Morgan (St. Peters) 6-4 for the championship.

The Tiger team of Jasmine Buth and Edyn Vechinski were champions in the doubles bracket, defeating Piper/Anna (James Williams Middle) 4-0, Katie Winder/Sophia Rosandich (Marshfield teammates) 4-2, and Maddie Kundinger/Talia Soskos (Marshfield teammates) 6-4 for the championship.

In overall match play, the Tigers defeated the Hodags 8-5 and fell to the Cardinals 3-6.

Marshfield Middle School girls’ tennis ended its 2022 season with a record of 10-3 in conference play. The Tigers were coached by Ali Luedtke.
