SPENCER — The Spencer FFA Alumni is creating a new scholarship fund to honor its late advisor, Mark Zimmerman, who passed away June 29 after a long battle with cancer.
“Two scholarships a year of $1,000 or more is our goal at the moment,” according to the group’s treasurer, Kirk Kramp. “Our long-term goal is to create a scholarship fund that will be self-sustaining.”

Kramp says scholarship fundraising efforts will coincide with the Spencer FFA’s annual Fall Harvest Breakfast, which is scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 11 at Anderson Electric in Spencer. “The basket and 50/50 and grill raffles at the breakfast will be used for the scholarship fund,” adds Kramp. He says the goal is to award the first two scholarships at the chapter’s annual spring banquet in May. “We wanted to honor Mark’s legacy, and we want kids to go on to post-secondary education.”
Zimmerman was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin-River Falls before joining the faculty at Spencer High School in 1992. Under his leadership, the program was consistently ranked as one of the top FFA chapters in the state and nation; and many of its students served as state FFA officers and top award winners on the national level.
Those interested in contributing to the scholarship fund can donate directly at any of the branches of Partners Bank in Marshfield, Stratford or Spencer. For more information about the scholarship fund, call 715-660-0074.
