WOOD COUNTY – A suspect is in custody, following a Wood County shooting.

“On May 30, at approximately 7:16 a.m., the Wood County Sheriff’s Department received a complaint to Marshfield Medical Center for a male subject with a gunshot wound,” a Wood County Sheriff’s release stated.

“On May 30, the Wood County Sheriff’s Department investigated a shooting which took place in the town of Richfield, Wood County. The Wood County Sheriff’s Department and Marshfield Police Department Special Response Team were able to take Jason R. Schultz, 29, into custody in connection with the shooting.

“Schultz is being held at the Wood County Jail and charges of first-degree reckless injury and bail jumping- felony are being forwarded to the Wood County District Attorney’s Office.

The male victim, who is a 33-year-old Marshfield man is currently being treated at the Marshfield Medical Center; he was shot with a .22 caliber long gun.

“During the investigation, it was determined that Schultz and the victim were having a disagreement over ail air compressor and the hose for the air compressor,” the release added.

“The public was never in any danger and this was an isolated incident. Half Mile Drive between US I0 and STH 80 was closed for several hours as a precaution.”

The Wood County Sheriff’s Department was assisted by the Marshfield Police Department, Wisconsin Rapids Fire & Ambulance, Marshfield Fire & Rescue, and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources.
